All you crazed, gun-toting xenophobes out there rejoice, for there is a brand new opportunity to vapourize E.T. and his glowing-fingered buddies from the comfort of your ST.
Paradize have released a Missile Command/Galaxian inspired shooter called Attack Wave. Coded by SimonSunnyBoy, and featuring music and graphic contributions from Marcer and Malodix respectively, it looks like a classic score attack game in the vain of the arcade games of old. Watch this space for the imminent review! It is available now on the Paradize homepage. Go there, be happy!

ThorN, ChrisTOS and SimonSunnyboy, geniuses behind STOT (ST Offline Tournament) have released an online magazine dedicated to retro computing, with a decidedly Atari ST slant to this first issue. It’s a great read covering topics such as new releases, old magazine articles, upcoming events, and interviews.

My highlights were a fascinating insight into the Jaguar scene and its bizarre politics, an interview with TomChi about r0x, and the features on STOT. There is also a great Switchblade review which also looks at the 8-bit versions.
So, stop reading this and go there, be happy!

When news of this game first broke, I took one look at the screenshots over at RGCD and thought to myself: ‘Wow! A new shoot ‘em up for the ST!’ as this is the first action game released for the ST for some time, and I was very excited. However, SimonSunnyBoy pointed out to me that r0x was not a shooter, but in fact an avoid-em-up, and a closer look at said screenshots and their lack of bullets (or any kind of projectyle) confirmed this. I couldn’t help feeling a little disappointed.
With r0x nominated for season 2, round 21 of STOT (ST Off-line Tournament), I put my disappointment behind me and set about trying to get a high score and, boy! How miss-placed was my disappointment? Read the rest of this entry ?

A new game! And it isn’t a puzzle game! And it looks bloody gorgeous!

The eventful stop-start development cycle as well as details of the game can be found on Heavy Stylus’ RGCD website. Looking forward to getting my stick around this one! Review to follow…

Jamie Woodhouse (author of the rather spiffing ST game Nitro and Amiga’s Qwak) has made available his playable prototype of Sideways, a sidescrolling (figures) shoot ‘em up that features more than the odd nod towards classic shooters Uridium, Goldrunner and Xenon. Read the rest of this entry ?

It’s been a long time since my last post (real life gets in the way once more!) and there have been a couple of developments on the ST gaming scene while I’ve been away – more on those later. Meanwhile, lets have a closer look at Oberje’s release of his Jaguar XJ220 conversion. If you’ve read my previous post you’ll know that an ST version of the classic Amiga racer was planned but canned before it saw the light of day (for more details see the Guardians of the PaST entry). With a gentle prod from the Guardians, Oberje compiled the playable code he had and made it available for us to enjoy.
Though not quite complete enough to get the full review treatment, I have got a gameplay vid and some screenshots to show you. Read the rest of this entry ?

The proprietor of the rather superb RGCD discmag has recently acquired a beautiful 4mb STE and this has inspired him to stuff loads of Atari ST content into the latest issue!

Amongst the usual menagerie of retro gaming goodness there are in-depth reviews of Bob Fossil’s Sudokuniverse, Manical Drop, The Pairs Are Gone and Read the rest of this entry ?

Atari ST game releases are very rare these days. Atari ST sudoku games are even rarer. Atari ST sodoku games based in the world of a cult BBC comedy are about as rare as rocking horse shit. Well, maybe not quite that rare anymore as no rocking horse (to my knowledge) has ever feculated, but this year someone has made an Atari ST sudoku game based upon the characters of the BBC’s Mighty Boosh.

And that's why I don't like cricket.

Stay Atari? Lucky for us some people have. Obviously fans of Nintendo’s Picross series (with versions appearing on the Game Boy, Super Nintendo and DS), the PicrossST Team have brought the incredibly simple and addictive nonogram game to the Atari ST in the form of PicrossST.

STay Atari? Luckily for us, some people have.

A plucky fellow who goes by the name of DMA has treated us to his remake of Data East’s wonderful and very japanese puzzler Magical Drop.
