The Great Atari ST Game Survey

I asked the forumites of four separate forums (atari-forum, AtariAge, Retro Gamer and Eurogamer) to name their top 5 games and collated the scores as follows:

  1. Five points
  2. Four points
  3. Three points
  4. Two points
  5. One point

Then I brought all the scores together to create a list of the Top 50 Atari ST games of all time according to contempory Atari ST gamers. It basically amounts to a 15,000 word essay on why the Atari ST is completely brilliant. Let’s kick off with the first five.

You can also have a look at the Constructors Championship to see which software houses scored highest.

  1. The definitive (at least the way I and a variety of mostly inanimate pets see it) Atari ST TOP 50. An excellent selection of games as chosen by the masses and 50 brilliantly written reviews. A fantastic effort!

  2. There are some absolute gems in there, all beautifully written as well.

I’m happy to see that Wizball didn’t make it but what of Archanoid 2? Mighty Bomb Jack? The Rick Dangerously/James Pond, The Lucasart and Sierra-Online adventure games, The Dizzy egg games and Dogs of War?

I know it’s not Atari ST only because the winner is (an I 100% agree with) Dungeon Master so where are they?

I had a review of Dungeon Master up on Archive.org a few years back, under the Amiga section – but my hands were tied with that – but it’s gone now (ironic eh?)

I think there are quite a few missing titles that shocked people, notably Sensible Soccer, Wings of Death, Secret of Monkey Island and Chaos Engine (I’m sure there are many more). My personal beef is that Rainbow Island is so low, and Frontier: Elite II didn’t even get a sniff.

Good shout on Dogs of War. Me and my mate had loads of fun with that back in the day. A really simple game enriched by the ‘win bounty/buy weapons’ sections.
